“Well Anyway”
From the album ‘Note to Self’ by The Hillary Step
(now available at www.thehillarystep.com)

“I’ve been breaking down
I’ve been breaking up with myself
Day after day
I’ve been shutting down,
I’ve been shutting up.
I wouldn’t know what to say….Well Anyway”

Man, I dig these lyrics. I remember feeling so lost at that time and when I read these, it takes me right back there. I like the fact that the wordplay enhances the emotion here instead of getting in the way of it, which it easily can.

“What Are We Waiting For”

From the album ‘Note to Self’ by The Hillary Step
(available at www.thehillarystep.com)

“Sometimes I see through the eyes of a kid
Seeing you just as the bad things you did
Plotting my anger like points on a grid

Sometimes I see through the eyes of a man
Knowing that you did the best that you can
And love doesn’t always go as you plan”

These lyrics to me totally represent the duality of feeling that we all go through about our parents as we start to see them as human beings but still hold on to how we saw them when we were kids. I love the idea of plotting anger like points on a grid…very visual to me.

Song Order

Wednesday, January 26th, 2011

I was talking to a friend about our new CD. He has a copy and seems to love it. He said though that his favorite song was the first one (Tell Me You Love Me) but that may be because a) it’s a great song and b) because it’s the first song and so he’s always around when it’s playing because he put the CD on. Note: he has an actual CD changer, which is so 10 minutes ago!!!.

Anyway, I am so glad about this feedback because it makes me feel like we did something right. If you are only gonna hear one song it will probably be the first song and yeah, it’s a pretty good freakin’ song!
